THE BUFFER SYSTEM
THE USMC ASKED FOR

An intermediate-length action that eliminates bolt bounce, tames suppressed recoil, and widens your rifle's operating envelope — at round counts most systems never see.

Flagship Innovation

THE A5
BUFFER SYSTEM

Born from a United States Marine Corps requirement, the A5 bridges the gap between carbine adjustability and rifle-length reliability. An intermediate-length receiver extension paired with a rifle spring and purpose-built buffers delivers smoother cycling, reduced felt recoil, and a wider operational envelope than any standard buffer system.

SEE WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

WHY A5?

  • Eliminates bolt bounce with 4-weight cascading deadblow design
  • Smoother recoil impulse via rifle-length spring
  • Lower bolt carrier velocity extends parts life
  • USMC-tested: proven increased parts longevity
  • Runs suppressed or unsuppressed with buffer weight tuning

INTERMEDIATE-LENGTH BUFFER

The A5 system uses a 3/4"-longer receiver extension with a rifle spring and 4-weight deadblow buffer. More dwell time, smoother deceleration, wider operating envelope than any carbine system.

MONOLITHIC RECEIVERS

The MUR upper integrates the Picatinny rail into a single 7075-T6 forging. No separate rail to work loose, no alignment issues. One piece, zero compromise on rigidity.

SUPPRESSOR-OPTIMIZED

Every VLTOR component is designed to perform across suppressed and unsuppressed configurations. Buffer weight tuning handles back-pressure changes without gas block adjustments.

Why VLTOR

ENGINEERING OVER
MARKETING

Most AR-15 components are cosmetic variations on the same mil-spec pattern. VLTOR exists because the standard pattern has real mechanical limitations — and we design around them.

The A5 buffer system wasn't created to be different. It was created because carbine buffer systems produce bolt bounce, harsh recoil impulse, and a narrow operating window that gets worse with suppressors, short barrels, and hot ammo. The intermediate-length concept solves those problems at the system level. Every VLTOR product follows the same principle: identify a mechanical limitation, then engineer a better solution.

SOLVE REAL PROBLEMS

We don't make products to fill a catalog. The A5 exists because carbine systems bounce. The MUR exists because two-piece uppers flex. The CASV exists because drop-in handguards limit barrel accuracy. Every product addresses a specific mechanical weakness.

TESTED AT INSTITUTIONAL VOLUME

USMC testing confirmed the A5 system increases parts longevity over both M4 carbine and M16A2 systems. Our components are evaluated at round counts that expose weaknesses consumer testing never reaches.

OEM-ADOPTED, NOT JUST AFTERMARKET

Manufacturers like Sons of Liberty Gun Works ship rifles with A5 systems standard. When other manufacturers build the A5 into their rifles at the factory level, it validates the engineering — not just the brand.
